Post-secondary: Psychology major to English major to 20th-century poetry novice to Miltonist for the dissertation. I was a professional radio announcer for 13 years (classical, jazz, rock). I've also done some audio engineering along the way. My favorite aphorism about computers comes from Alan Kay: "The computer is an instrument whose music is ideas." I've used various kinds of technology, from laserdiscs to blogs, in my teaching and research for the last 22 years. I've written stuff in Milton Studies, Renaissance studies, film studies, and varieties of new media/computer/teaching-learning combinations. I've led several teaching-learning-technology programs at universities in Virginia and Texas. Nicholas Carr may be making us stupid; posterity will judge. I'm very excited about attending my first THATCamp.
